Our
Success
Many
patients have told us that our treatment was what finally helped
them quit for good. Many of the people whom we have helped quit
have been smoking for more than 28 years!
Our
Statistics
The following
is based on data from our 2002 annual
report.
- Approximately
50% of our patients who quit were still abstinent from smoking
1 month after their quit date
- Almost 20%
of patients who didn't totally quit had cut down their amount
of smoking by at least half
- About 30%
of patients who quit were still abstinent from smoking 6 months
after
their quit date
- Over 95%
of patients rated our services as being "excellent"
or "good"
These
are considered to be very successful quit rates in tobacco treatment.
For comparison, the U.S. Public Health Service
Guideline reports an average long term abstinence rate
of 11% without treatment and 22% from "high intensity counseling".
Other
interesting information
- For those
attending Group Therapy, 23% of patients who attended 1-3 sessions
were still abstinent from smoking 1 month after quitting, while
84% of patients who attended 4-6 sessions were still abstinent
one month later. Those who came to more sessions of group,
were more likely to stay quit.
- Patients
who used a combination of medications, such as the patch and Zyban
together (which should be done only under professional supervision),
were more likely to stay quit
- Patients
who used medications for a longer time were also more successful
in staying quit
Since
January of 2001, the Tobacco Dependence Clinic
has seen over 3500 patients.
Many people are still trying to quit smoking, and we are here to
help anyone who asks.
