| A poll showed 73% of all Americans favor new restrictions on tobacco sales, 67% |
| back banning magazine, newspaper and billboard cigarette ads, and 82% of voters |
| overall and 76% of smokers think that tobacco companies should be banned from |
| using cartoons or other advertising attractive to children. |

| In response to the FDA's proposals to regulate tobacco, the five largest tobacco |
| companies and their lobbying organization, the Tobacco Institute, dumped more than |
| 47,000 pages of comments on the FDA, including a 2,000 page position statement |
